First Call

While the news of your child having Down syndrome may have come unexpectedly, your life will be full of many wonderful surprises and experiences.  We are here to help celebrate with you and support you along the way.

Our First Call program connects parents of children with Down syndrome with the most up-to-date information, resources and a welcoming community to support you along your journey.  We hope DSAMT will always be your “First Call” for Down syndrome related questions or issues, and we will always strive to help wherever and whenever we can.

There are no fees to join DSAMT or participate in our First Call program.

Baby Showers

DSAMT parents invite all new and expecting moms of babies with Down syndrome to be showered with gifts, resources and friendship. Dads are invited to join “veteran” dads for conversation and resources, too. Grandparents are welcome to attend, too. It’s always free to attend, but RSVP is required.

Sunshine Program

Individuals with Down syndrome bring so much joy & light to our lives, and The Sunshine Program was created to give a little joy and light back to those who are either in the hospital or going through a tough time. Our First Call parent representatives can bring meals, Sunshine Bags or other needed items. Simply call DSAMT at 615-454-3129 or email alecia@somethingextra.org if you or someone you know is in need.

Parent Representative & Networking

Some parents are reluctant to reach out and connect to local groups for a variety of reasons, while others are hungry for information and reach out very quickly. Regardless of how you feel right now, connecting to other families with similar experiences can have a very positive impact on your family.

DSAMT provides each new parent with a trained parent representative - another parent of a child with Down syndrome who is a “veteran” parent and who will be available to meet, answer questions, listen to your concerns and provide support. Contact Alecia Talbott at alecia@somethingextra.org or 615-454-3129 to learn more.

New & Expecting Parent Hotline

If you are a parent who has just received a diagnosis, please call our New Parent Hotline at 615-294-8736. This number goes directly to a staff cell phone to help you in the way that is best for you, whether that be to just listen, answer your questions, give you the most up-to-date resources, connect you with a trained parent representative, bring you into a community of friends to welcome you and support you, and/or send you a celebration bag filled with some extra special gifts.
